Recap of Public Meeting #1

Held October 21st to November 11th, 2020

The overall purpose of this first meeting was to reintroduce the project, gather information from the public and set the stage as the plan moves forward. We gave three presentations and two activities to discuss plan origins, review area history, provide information on the completed market study and allow participants to provide feedback. Accompanying each presentation was an option to comment about that specific topic.

Part 2: Activities

Activity #1 of 2

Where Do You Live? Where do you Work?

We asked participants to place a pin where they live and/or work in Hickory Flat to better understand the community. Below are the results of this activity, with green pins representing locations where people work and pink pins for where they live. The pins are not in exact locations for privacy reasons but are close by the actual locations given.

The blue line represents the study boundary for the area plan.

Activity #2 of 2

As part of the word exercises, participants were asked to answer three questions, using only a word or two, about Hickory Flat: What word(s) would you use to describe the area currently? In 2040? And what makes it unique?

The final question asked the public to make their “Community Wish List.” A list of components found in communities was provided and participants were asked to select those they enjoy and hope to see more of in Hickory Flat. An “Other” selection was available for anyone to write in a suggestion not on the list.

The results were compiled for the word exercises and a Word Cloud was generated, with the most commonly mentioned words/topics appearing larger than others. A bar chart is provided to share the results of the Community Wish List.
